Problem 1: One Sample t test

 

            IBPS has conducted an exam for the recruitment of personnel to be posted in ABC Bank.  The average score of all the candidates was found to be 140.  CMR B School, Bengaluru claims that the candidates who have attended coaching class conducted by their Placement Cell have got scores more than the overall average.  The following are the scores obtained by 22 students of the Placement Cell of CMR B School.  You are required to test whether the average score obtained by the students of the Placement Cell of CMR B School differs from the overall average.  The scores obtained by the students of the Placement Cell of CMR B School are as follows:

HYPOTHESES

Null Hypothesis H0:  There is no significant difference between the overall average score and the average score obtained by the students of the Placement Cell of CMR B School

Alternative Hypothesis H1:  There is a significant difference between the overall average score and the average score obtained by the students of the Placement Cell of CMR B School.

            Since the p value 0.002 is less than 0.01 (p<0.01), there is a significant difference between the overall average and the average scores obtained by the students of CMR B School.

            It is concluded that the students of CMR B School have obtained scores more than the overall average score.
