This activity from NOAA Ocean Service is about using aerial photographs to assess the impact of extreme weather events such as Hurricane Katrina. The activity features aerial views of Biloxi, MS post-Katrina and enables students to see evidence of the power of extreme weather on the environment.

This contemplative practice inquires into the complex web of interdependencies linking global climate change, the War on Terror, Afghan poppy production, opiate addiction, and food security through the lens of systems theory. The exercise challenges students to consider these linkages not only conceptually but also somatically and emotionally.

After the Ice: Our Food discusses changes in historic food sources for Arctic Native Americans. Global climate change is altering yearly cycles of both ice coverage and depth in the Bering Sea. Changes in the ice affect the way local native groups hunt in order to feed their community.

Students will write a daily response to an agriculture news story and make connections to thier community and predict the impact of the event on the agriculture industry.  Reading current agriculture news will help students be more informed consumers while also helping them to connect content learned in agriculture class to real-world events and applications. Course provides students with the information and skills necessary for career success in agribusiness and in the operation of entrepreneurial ventures. Topics include economic principles, budgeting, risk management, finance, business law, insurance and resource management. Other possible topics are development of a business plan, employee/employer relations, problem solving and decision making, using computers. Topics such as public speaking, effective communication, human relations, parliamentary law, and group dynamics are covered.
