Overview:This unit is presented as a series of cooperation, team buidling, and problem solving learning tasks. Learning tasks should begin as partner to partner, and progress to small group, large group, and finally, whole class. Standards 4 and Standards 5 are addessed in this unit. Known as the WLLC team (World Language Learning Community) team these teachers have worked together for several years to improve the teaching strategies in language education for area schools. They have all participated in various professional development opportunities, including Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS) with Susan Gross and Karen Rowan, Comprehensible Input Reading Strategies with Jason Fritze and Literacy Strategies delivered by staff from Nebraska Department of Education, World Languages Department.

OverviewStudents will be introduced to (or quickly review) the elements of design in this one-day lesson. Students will begin with a Quizzizz game. Next, the students will use a notes sheet to follow along with a slide deck to learn about this topic. While taking notes, students will doodle, write, reflect, and discuss the elements of design as prompted by the slides. Discussion questions are included in the Notes section on each slide. At the end of the class period, the students will watch a music video and discuss how the elements of design are incorporated into the video. If there is extra time, additional discussion questions are included at the end of the slide deck. Educators worked with NDE staff to create OER Learning Plans and materials. The attached Lesson Plan is designed for 9 - 12 World Language teachers for students at Novice Mid to Intermediate Mid proficiency level in Spanish. Students will listen to a presentation on huipiles, answer questions embedded in the presentation, and then use what they learned to create their own weaving project. This unit covers the broad spectrum of topics that make-up our very amazing human body. Students are introduced to the space environment and learn the major differences between the environment on Earth and that of outer space. The engineering challenges that arise because of these discrepancies are also discussed. Then, students dive into the different components that make up the human body: muscles, bones and joints, the digestive and circulatory systems, the nervous and endocrine systems, the urinary system, the respiratory system, and finally the immune system. Students learn about the different types of muscles in the human body and the effects of microgravity on muscles. Also, they learn about the skeleton, the number of and types of bones in the body, and how outer space affects astronauts' bones. In the lessons on the digestive, circulatory, nervous and endocrine systems, students learn how these vital system work and the challenges faced by astronauts whose systems are impacted by spaceflight. And lastly, advances in engineering technology are discussed through the lessons on the urinary, respiratory and immune systems while students learn how these systems work with all the other body components to help keep the human body healthy.

The 12th grade learning experience consists of 7 mostly month-long units aligned to the Common Core State Standards, with available course material for teachers and students easily accessible online. Over the course of the year there is a steady progression in text complexity levels, sophistication of writing tasks, speaking and listening activities, and increased opportunities for independent and collaborative work. Rubrics and student models accompany many writing assignments.Throughout the 12th grade year, in addition to the Common Read texts that the whole class reads together, students each select an Independent Reading book and engage with peers in group Book Talks. Language study is embedded in every 12th grade unit as students use annotation to closely review aspects of each text. Teacher resources provide additional materials to support each unit.

In our lives, we are constantly telling stories to ourselves and to others in an attempt to both understand our experiences and present our best selves to others. But how do we tell a story about ourselves that is both true and positive? How do we hold ourselves up in the best possible light, while still being honest about our struggles and our flaws? Students will explore ways of interpreting and portraying personal experiences. They'll read Chinua Achebe's novel Things Fall Apart , analyzing the text through the eyes of one character. They'll get to know that character's flaws and strengths, and they'll tell part of the story from that character's perspective, doing their best to tell an honest tale that presents their character's best side. Then they'll explore their own stories, crafting a personal narrative about an important moment of learning in his or her life.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Students read and analyze Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart , viewing the events and conflicts of the novel through the eyes of one of the central characters. Students write a two-part narrative project: one narrative told through their character’s perspective and one personal narrative about an incident in their own life.
