OpenML: An R Package to Connect to the Machine Learning Platform OpenML

OpenML is an online machine learning platform where researchers can easily share data, machine learning tasks and experiments as well as organize them online to work and collaborate more efficiently. In this paper, we present an R package to interface with the OpenML platform and illustrate its usage in combination with the machine learning R package mlr (Bischl et al, 2016). We show how the OpenML package allows R users to easily search, download and upload data sets and machine learning tasks. Furthermore, we also show how to upload results of experiments, share them with others and download results from other users. Beyond ensuring reproducibility of results, the OpenML platform automates much of the drudge work, speeds up research, facilitates collaboration and increases the users’ visibility online.

About This Document: This manual was assembled and is being updated by Professor Benjamin Le (@benjaminle), who is on the faculty in the Department of Psychology at Haverford College. A 24-year-old man presented with new onset of generalized tonic clonic seizure. Prior to admission, the patient reported an enlarging painless scalp mass for the previous two months, without having sought medical attention. MRI of the brain revealed a 7.7 cm heterogeneously enhancing mass with a large subgaleal extracalvarial/extracranial component and a smaller intracranial enhancing component along the dura on T1 weighted images (Figures 1 and 2). Noncontrast CT showed abnormal calvarial sclerosis concerning for osseous involvement (Figure 3). The patient underwent biparietal craniectomy and sub-total resection of the mass with residual tumor involving the superior sagittal sinus. The cranium, dura, and subgaleal mass were submitted for evaluation.

Physics 205/206 satisfies your physics requirement if you're a biology major transferring to a Cal State. The prerequisites for 205 are Math 141 (precalculus) and Math 142 (trig). Physics 210/211 satisfies your physics requirement if you're a biology major transferring to a UC (or a Cal State). The prerequisites for 210 are Math 141 (precalculus) and Math 142 (trig), and the corequisite is Math 150A (calculus).

The Play by Ear Music Curriculum

The ancient and original skills of playing music by ear are as important as ever in the 21st Century. Play-by-Ear differs from other methods with a focus away from the individual onto facilitating others to participate. Play-by-Ear provides a common denominator to quickly engage with inclusive participation and minimal resources. Community group leaders, substitute teachers and therapists are often called upon to lead music on short notice. Participants can mix and range from total beginners at all ages to some accomplished in traditional methods. Such groups may have no scope for follow-up so require some instant gratification with whatever is available on the spot. The core Play-by-Ear method achieved an Australian Innovation Patent in 2016 and has since been extended to fulfill school and community curriculum levels. Techniques are demonstrated to cover the full AASL 21st Century skill domains, ranging from a single finger chord on a ukulele up through use of digital tools to produce a music video for a worldwide audience.

Principles of Microeconomics: Scarcity and Social Provisioning takes a pluralistic approach to the standard topics of an introductory microeconomics course. The text builds on the chiefly neoclassical material of the OpenStax Principles of Economics text, adding extensive content from heterodox economic thought. Emphasizing the importance of pluralism and critical thinking, the text presents the method and theory of neoclassical economics alongside critiques thereof and heterodox alternatives in both method and theory. This approach is taken from the outset of the text, where contrasting definitions of economics are discussed in the context of the various ways in which neoclassical and heterodox economists study the subject. The same approach–of theory and method, critique, and alternative theory theory and method–is taken in the study of consumption, production, and market exchange, as well as in the applied theory chapters. Historical and contemporary examples are given throughout, and both theory and application are presented with a balanced approach.

This textbook will be of interest especially to instructors and students who wish to go beyond the traditional approach to the fundamentals of microeconomic theory, and explore the wider spectrum of economic thought.
