Learning Objective: I will start the process of creating a series of paintings that show my interests and strengths as an artist.Your final project for this class will be painting a series of paintings. You will be working on this project for 3 weeks (approximately 14 hours). This week you will be planning out and deciding on what form your series will take and begin your paintings.Make sure you are painting a series of works you are interested in. You will be creating a series of 3 to 5 paintings that all have unified elements.This week, you will be coming up with the idea for your final series. You will submit an explanation of your series and also images of your preliminary sketches and begin writing your artist statement.Before you submit this creative work ask yourself a few questions; these are all questions to consider before you turn work in to be graded:Ask yourself if you spent enough time to make this work the best that it can be, or did you just rush in the end to get it done?If you just rushed in the end, what are you going to do differently next week?Really self evaluate your work and your process of working. What can you do to improve? What does improvement look like?Did you take into account the different resources and artists/designers we have learned about in this class?

It includes a brief study of art history and in depth studies of the elements, media, and methods used in creative processes and thought. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: interpret examples of visual art using a five-step critical process that includes description, analysis, context, meaning, and judgment; identify and describe the elements and principles of art; use analytical skills to connect formal attributes of art with their meaning and expression; explain the role and effect of the visual arts in societies, history, and other world cultures; articulate the political, social, cultural, and aesthetic themes and issues that artists examine in their work; identify the processes and materials involved in art and architectural production; utilize information to locate, evaluate, and communicate information about visual art in its various forms. Wheel of Theodorus Art Project

This is a cross curricular art project for 8th grade math students. Students are first introduced to what the Wheel of Theodorus is, ponder where they see it in the world around them and then instructed on how to create their own. When they have finished constructing their Wheel of Theodorus they are asked to creatively and colorfully turn it "into" something. Examples are given. After they Wheel of Theodorus is complete, students are then asked to measure all the sides lengths of the triangles in the wheel. They should quickly see that they can use the Pythagorean Theorem to do this and that it follows a predictable pattern. No ruler will be required for this part of the project!

Learning to Use a Vector Editor - Gravit.io

This is a unit on learning how to use a vector editing program (gravit.io) used for my online graphic design class. This program is free and runs in the browser so was optimal for my students using chromebooks. Each of the 6 lessons has a written lesson tutorial with images, as well as a screencast video that goes over that lesson. 4 of the 6 lessons have an assignment associated with them. CREATE Animal or Hero Shape Design For this assignment, you will be creating an Animal or Hero design using only shapes and positive and negative space.  Follow the steps below to complete the assignment.Your animal or hero will Include the following features: Use a white sheet of paper. You're drawing needs to fill a regular 8.5x11 size paper or be bigger. Your choice of animal or super hero drawn with only shapesYour shapes will be filled in with black Sharpie or colored in with marker, colored pencil, or paint. Your choice.  Step 1: IntroductionTalk about positive and negative shapes and space in art and it's importance.Find examples of art throught the ages that works with positive an negative space. Find simple examples that make it easier for studetns to see. Have students reaserach an aminal or hero they want to draw and get started on thumbnail sketches.  Step 2: Look through these student examples of artwork using only shapes and positive and negative space to get ideas of what you want to create for your project.

Cross Curricular Theatre and Graphic Arts T-shirt Design Contest
