This interview provides an introduction to the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) regarding the global control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). The FCTC treaty is a response to the worry of member states, that tobacco is not decreasing but rather growing. Furthermore it is discussed how we can make sure people don’t start smoking or quit as early as possible.

This presentation provides an introduction to the innovative use of technology to improve maternal and child health in low and middle income countries. Two of the major challenges in relation to reproductive and child health is access to health services and the quality of services provided in the health system. In continuation of this we’ll look into how mobile phone interventions can strengthen access to and quality of life saving interventions particularly in the time surrounding the delivery when the woman and the newborns are most vulnerable.

There is good reason to invest in tourism in Zanzibar. In 2019, it was expected that over half a million tourists would visit the island, which is only half the size of Funen island in Denmark. Tourists bring in money and growth, but research shows that, for example, Zanzibarians only have 11% of managerial jobs in restaurants and only 20% of tourism revenue goes to the local community, while 53% disappear from the island.

Plastic bottles are impossible to avoid when travelling for vacation to southern countries. In Zanzibar, thousands of plastic bottles are sailed in from the mainland every day. They float as waste everywhere on beaches, streets, and in between bushes, trees and tall grass.
In this episode, we will meet Aziza Biubwa of the State University of Zanzibar, a researcher in waste management, Justin Madho, who works for the waste company Zanrec and Sjani Müggenburg, director of Ozti East Africa - a company that has made furniture plastic screw cap.

"Direct oral anticoagulants, or DOACs, are prescribed to millions of patients to prevent life-threatening events such as stroke and thromboembolism. However, scenarios such as serious bleeding or the need for an emergent invasive procedure may require active reversal of anticoagulant effects. Two reversal agents are now FDA-approved, but their use in clinical practice is complicated by lack of evidence on their comparative effectiveness with other strategies, cost, availability, and safety concerns. To provide clarity for clinicians, the Anticoagulation Forum, the largest organization of anticoagulant providers, has developed clinical guidance on the use of reversal agents as well as their acquisition and management. This expert guidance is designed to help clinicians and institutions ensure the safe and effective treatment of patients taking anticoagulants. First, and perhaps most importantly, reversal agents should be the last line of defense..."

This seminar applies a systems perspective to understand health care delivery today, its stakeholders and problems as well as opportunities. Students are introduced to the ‘systems perspective’ that has been used successfully in other industries, and will address the introduction of new processes, technologies and strategies to improve overall health outcomes. Students are assigned to teams to work on a semester‐long group project, in collaboration with staff of a nearby Boston hospital.
