Unit Rates

Launch:

Ask questions about buying 2 for $1 packs  of sunflowers seeds and 2 for $2.50 for sodas , and ask 40 ounces of soda for $.79 what would be the better buy?

Teach:

How to find unit rates by reviewing how to unit rates by teaching about simplifying fractions. In this process you will have to go over adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions.

Guided Practice:  Work practice on the board about fraction along with stopping the video to practice.  This might last a day or two depending on the level of students.( This class is a mixed of 7th and 8th graders who are low).  Then I will start to work examples with finding unit rates.

Independent practice:

10 problem worksheet on finding the unit rates.  Will correct and go over with the students

Review:

Go back over unit rates and then start process of working with unit of measurements.
