Launch:

At the store you purchase 2 packs of sunflowers seeds for $1 and 4 cans of soda for $2.50. You give your friend 1 pack of sunflower seeds and a can of soda.  How much does your friend owe you?  (Note: This is the problem that focuses the lesson for the day.  Students will actually solve this later in the lesson)

Explore:

Using the Brainingcamp activity.  Have students go through the lesson independently to explore finding unit rate.  Unit Rates - BrainingCamp

Guided Practice:  

Using whiteboards and Khan Academy, the teacher will play a video with word problem examples for finding unit rate.  The teacher will pause the video periodically to give students and opportunity to solve the problems and to assess student understanding.                                 Unit Rate- Khan Academy

Independent practice:

Students will interactively complete 10 problems finding unit rates. Unit Rates - AAAMath

Closure:

We will review the Launch problem and discuss how to solve it.
