INNOVATION ELEMENTARY PILOT 2012
INNOVATION 101
The Henry Ford Museum is not on a historic site, it is a shining example of modern innovation education for school children. There website oninnovation.com is a wealth of information, activities and inspirational innovator videos. These resources are currently free and accessible to interested users. I was part of a pilot program that utilized these resources in my fourth grade class.
The following is a list of information that I remixed from the original Innovation 101 curriculum:
- INTRODUCTION
- VOCABULARY
- GRAPHIC ORGANIZER
- INNOVATOR VIDEOS
- GROUP ACTIVITIES
- QUOTES
INNOVATION 101
EVALUATION
Innovation 101 is a great source for grades 4-12 students. There are many interesting and fun free resources that can open the door to teaching and illustrating 21st century skills. These are some valuable resources:
- free videos of a wide variety of innovators (present/pas)
- free hand-outs related to innovative skill building
- historic images
- additional interactive related kits that support learning
The Keynote that I have added is a remix of Innovation 101 that was adapted for my fourth grade class. My students were intrigued by many of the innovator videos. It was necessary to interpret and review videos that students had to vocabulary issues to improve classroom discussion.
RECOMMENDATION
I highly recommend Innovation 101. My students made videos describing innovation and their favorite innovators from this program. It warmed my heart and improved their outlook because this is not the normal curriculum but, it enhanced there knowledge about creating positive change. This year, I have embraced the Innovation 101 spirit. Our class theme is Innovators. Please take a look at this wonderful program
