Perspectives of the Civil War
Standard: USH 1.4
We want to help students reach a better understanding of the Civil War. We hope that students can take on the perspectives of particular citizens in the United States during the time of the war, and connect that information to the current political differences between the northern and southern states that still exist.
DQ:
Students will take on the perspective of a northern federal official, an average northern citizen, a wealthy land owner in the south, and an average southern citizen, and they will have to develop an argument for whether or not the south should secede from the war; they must support it with evidence from their given perspective.
Grabber: Crash course American Civil War video.
Culminating Activity:
Presentation of facts found during students' research. Followed by a question and answer portion after the presentations have been completed.
