Terrorism PBL
This PBL addresses the topic of global terrorism and the standard WH.6.11. It allows students to explore a variety of plausible methods to fight against rising terrorism. Students will gain an enriched global perspective as they work through the issue of terrorism in our world.
Driving Question: In what ways can countries combat or work to prevent terrorism according to their definition of it?
Grabber: Beginning with a video showing the effects of terrorism and then following it up with a brief explanation about the global definition of terrorism.
Activity: First students will split into a group of six people that will correlate with a country like Syria, France, India, Libya, or China. Next each student will work to find a variety of methods to help combat terrorism in their country. Students must remember to try and focus on past ten years to stay current with their solutions. Students will then create an electronic presentation to be submitted to the teacher and presented to the class. These need to be real life possible solutions within that country’s abilities. Other groups of students will be encouraged to find flaws in other group's solutions so students must be ready to defend their choices. At the end of the presentations, students will reconvene in a socratic circle to discuss how terrorism is effecting the world and what they themselves can do to fight terrorism.
