Essential Question: What steps are needed to complete the process?
Content Questions: How are you going to use the ingredients form the brown bag to make a recipe that all students in your class can understand and follow?
Prior Learning: Understand what is needed for the writing process such as brainstorming, prewriting, drafting, and revising.

Printed Materials: Worksheet-Speedy Pizza for Two (previous assignment)
Supplies: Five ingredients- Pretzels, bread, applesauce, chocolate fudge sauce, and m+m candies. Brown paper bag, plates, spoons, and forks. Paper and pencil.

By the end of the assignment students will be able to effectively write expository text demonstrating sequence, transitional words, while using proper grammar, and punctuation. Students will give both a self-evaluation as well as evaluate peers. Students will clearly list needed ingredients and are expected to have a clear logical order of steps with words that are clearly understood to determine order of the recipe.
Students will be evaluated using a rubric. Scores will be determine based on the follow criteria: sequence, transitional words, grammar, spelling, ingredients, and peer evaluation. Students will score between a one and a four, one being very low needing much improvement and four being superior. Peer evaluation will be based on ability to follow the recipe. At the end of this project student will be able to use critical thinking and expository writing to create a recipe.

Engagement:
Hook the students with brown paper bag sitting on desk rolled closed. Students will be instructed not to open bag. Began lesson with Prezi presentation with added affects to grab and draw the attention of students in.
Lesson Procedure:
Presentation will be shown on laptop with projector and Prezi software to show how the students should write a recipe and an example of the show Chopped.
Have students break up in teams of four each team with a brown paper bag.
Ask students if any have watched Chopped on Food Network. Explain how on Chopped each individual is presented with a mystery basket. The challenge is for each Chef to come up with their own recipe.
Have the teams open the mystery bag telling what items are in the bag.
Explain to the students their objective is to write a recipe with the five ingredients from the paper bag. It will be their own no nonsense recipe. It must be in logical order and easy to follow.
Grammar and spelling will be graded.
Teams will have access to tablets and laptops for the website betterrecipes.com to view how a recipe is written. They must type their recipe out on the laptop.
Write objective on board

-Teams will create their own recipe that other students can clearly
understand and can easily follow.
-Write recipe in logical order.
-Brainstorm ideas, write a rough draft, and then type a final.
After recipe is written and typed teams will switch with other teams and follow recipe, Students will grade each other from a 1-4 on how easy steps are written and to follow.
Adaptations for Special Needs
Special Needs Learner: Write clear directions on board for a visual.
Non-Native English Speaker: Working one on one with students to clarify directions.
Gifted Student: Students that finish early can think of ingredients for a new mystery bag and work on additional recipes for it.
