Inquiry Based Project

This is a Project Based Learning project created for a first grade classroom. This project is based off of grade level 1.LS.3-Make observations of plants and animals to compare the diversity of life in different habitats. This project includes two main hands on activities and very little time is spent lecturing.

Driving Question-

How and why do pet lifestyles differ from one another? 

Grabber-


●      Video of cute animals (puppies, kittens, tiger cubs, bear cubs)

●      Have students bring in their pet for a show & tell

Culminating Activity-


The 3-D model.


Using a regular size shoe box, students will create an ideal living environment for their favorite animal/pet. Students may use any sort of coloring materials (i.e. color penciled, crayons, paint) and any other type of relevant material. Students must include sources of food/energy that their animal uses. Be sure to include all necessities for the animal. You can also be as creative as you want. During the week this part of the project is implemented (Week 2), the students will receive 30-45 minutes of class time each day to work in their 3-D model. Students will be graded on 3 different criteria;
