Dividing Whole Numbers VoiceThread

Dividing Whole Numbers

Soon you will learn how to divide decimals by decimals. However, before we can do that, it is important to know how to divide whole numbers. In this assignment, you will choose a number sentence to solve and then share your solution along with an explanation with your classmates. Finally you will view 2 classmates solutions and provide feedback. Our goal is to make sure we are comfortable dividing whole numbers before we move on.

Part 1 Directions:

1. Choose one of the following number sentences to solve.

Choice 1: 216/9

Choice 2: 540/15

Choice 3: 171/12

2. Solve the number sentence you chose, but make sure to take a picture of each step. This will help you when you need to share your solution and process.

3. Use the following graphic organizer to organize the steps of your strategy. This will help when you have to share your explanation on VoiceThread. You can use words or numbers here, whichever is clearest to you.

4. Go to VoiceThread and sign in. This is where you will share your strategy and solution. If you need to, watch the tutorial videos for creating and commenting. These can be found in the drop down menu on the left under Tutorials.

4. Create a VoiceThread that includes the following:

  • A picture of each step of your strategy
  • An explanation. It should be clear how you solved your problem.
  • The solution should be clear.

Also, refer to the rubric.

6. Share your voicethread.

Part 2 Directions:

We will start this in class, and then you must finish it for homework.

1. Watch two (2) of your classmates VoiceThreads.

2. Comment and provide feedback for each VoiceThread that you watch. (You may choose how you comment i.e. text, audio) You are only required to make 1 comment for each voicethread, so a total of 2 comments.

3. When commenting on your classmates VoiceThreads, use the following prompts and suggestions to guide you.

  • Your explanation for ___________ was very detailed and clear.
  • I do not understand what you said about__________. Can you clarify?
  • Be careful when you ….
