Indiana Standard:  FCS-MS 3.1  

Evaluate nutrition choices and practices in a variety of settings, using reliable guidelines and sources of information, including dietary guidelines/MyPlate and nutrients and nutritional label analysis.

Description:

Students will learn about fiber by looking at what fiber is, the different types, what it does for the body, sources of fiber, and diseases associated with an underconsumption.  

Objective: The student will understand the importance of fiber in the body, its function in the body, food sources, and diseases associated with a lack of consumption.  

Procedure:

  1. Make popcorn for students to eat as you present the information.

  4. Optional follow-up:  Have students make vegetable quesadillas with a wide choice of vegetables.  (Hint:  2 T cheese is plenty of cheese for 1 quesadilla.)
