Indiana Standard: P.1.6 Describe the key concepts of the ethical guidelines applied by the American Psychological Association regarding the use of human and non-human animal subjects.  

Objective: Students will be able to describe the key concepts of ethical guidelines in psychological research concerning animals and humans, and formulate their personal opinion on the subject matter.

Procedure: Students will view a video lecture on the ethics involved in psychological research. Students are encouraged to take notes over the main concepts and content while viewing.

Product or Assessment:After viewing the video lecture, students will be formulating their argument and opinion to the following questions: (1) Are there ethical issues to consider when conducting psychological research? (2) What about the rights of people? (3) What about the rights of animals? Students should use specific cases discussed to support their opinion, as well as several facts and examples. Arguments will be evaluated on the depth of knowledge and persuasiveness presented.
