Indiana Standard: S.7.2 Identify basic social institutions and explain their impact on individuals, groups and organizations within society and how they transmit the values of society.

Objective: Students will identify and recall the social institutions of schooling and education in American society, and analyze how the different methods of schooling transmit the values of society in the most effective way.

Procedure: Students will view and discuss a powerpoint presentation over the various types of schooling.


Product or Assessment:Students will need to consider the role of “schooling” and education in American society. Imagine a teacher at their school is a new parent- which type of “schooling” will you persuade them to try? Why? Which form of schooling is the most successful at transmitting the values of American society? Students will need to create something electronic- a powerpoint, paper, prezi- that illustrated their argument. Arguments needs to be based in factual evidence.
