Title: Sun Project

Grade Level: Sixth Grade

Subject: Science

Duration: Two Days

DOK Level: Level 4

SAMR Level: Redefinition

Indiana Standard: 6.ESS.2 Design models to describe how Earth's rotation, revolution, tilt, and interaction with the sun and moon cause seasons, tides, changes in daylight hours, eclipses, and phases of the moon.

Objective: Students will be able to label and understand how the sun works

Procedure:

Choose and complete ONE project below in order to show that you know the parts of the sun.

Follow these Rules :

* Bring your supplies to class and create the project IN CLASS. You will have two days to work on it.

* Your project  must correctly label the following parts of the sun: core, photosphere, chromosphere, corona, sunspots, prominence.

* The parts of the sun must be easy to see and read.

* It must be colored, painted, etc. (whatever is appropriate).

* It must be neat.

* It must be evident that you spent some quality time creating it.

Possible Projects to Choose From :

  1. Poster- either a poster board or an online poster. The online poster could include videos, sounds, etc.
  1. A foldable of some sort.
  2. A 3D model of some kind. This could be a foam ball that you cut a slice out of and label.
  3. A Google Slide presentation- This would have to be a slide for each layer and then a slide that shows all layers together. You would need to provide some facts on each slide as well.

Be creative and make this project your own. The examples shown are only to give you a starting place. Do not copy them.
