Description:

Students will be able to determine the author’s tone within a text.

Objective:

  • Students will locate information within a text using close reading skills
  • Students will be able to support ideas with details and examples from the text
  • Students will be be able to identify the author’s tone in a work of literature

Essential Question:

How do the author’s words give a specific tone to this text?

Procedure:

  1. The teacher will go over this slideshow while students take notes
  2. The students will read a set of poems
  3. The students must identify the tone of the passage using textual evidence to support ideas. Students must highlight the lines in the poem that provide textual evidence for their answers.

Product or Assessment:

Students will turn in their annotated poems and responses to the questions via Google Classroom.
