Description:

After reading the short story, “A Sound of Thunder” by Ray Bradbury, students will collaborate on a set of questions that ask them to analyze the themes, plot, and characters of the story. Next, students will work on a creative project that will apply the elements of the story to real life skills.

Objective:

  • Students will be able to distinguish between the different plot points in a short story
  • Students will be able to diagram the plot of “A Sound of Thunder” by Ray Bradbury
  • Students will be able to identify different types of character development in a story

Essential Question:

How do character decisions and actions impact the plot of the story?

Procedure:

Day 1:

  1. The students will read “A Sound of Thunder” by Ray Bradbury in groups of 2-3 students.
  2. The students will work together in groups of 2-3 on an assignment that asks them to analyze the characters, mood, and plot of the story. Each group will work on one shared Google Doc of the assignment.

Day 2:

  1. The teacher will go over this project sheet.
  2. Students will have the full class period to work individually on their projects.

Product or Assessment:

Students will submit the groups’ answers to the discussion questions, as well as a finished individual project
