Objective:

Students will understand mentorship and its value in gathering knowledge, skills, and attitudes as it relates to employment.

Essential Question:

  1.  What is a mentor?
  2.  Who are mentors available to assist one in obtaining knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for employment?
  3.  When should one obtain a mentor?

Procedure:

  1.  Students will be introduced to mentorship by viewing the Ted talk entitled, 5 1/2 Mentors That Will Change Your Life.

      2.   Students will use Animoto to tell their story with potential mentors in each of the 5 ½ categories from the Ted talk.  This will require reviewing the types of mentors and analyzing individuals who could fill these roles.  The story should indicate when each mentor would be most helpful for their own personal situation.

Product or Assessment:

Students will tell their own story regarding mentors in their life using Animoto.

Accommodations:

Students could identify 1-2 mentors who could assist them with understanding the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for employment and make a verbal or written presentation to the teacher.

Enrichment:

Students could interview 1-2 mentors they might utilize for their own growth and determine what that mentorship relationship would entail.
