9-10.W.3.3 Write narrative compositions in a variety of forms that – ● Engage and orient the reader by setting out a problem, situation, or observation, establishing one or multiple point(s) of view, and introducing a narrator and/or characters. ● Create a smooth progression of experiences or events. ● Use narrative techniques, (e.g., dialogue, pacing, description, reflection, and multiple plot lines), to develop experiences, events, and/or characters. ● Use a variety of techniques to sequence events so that they build on one another to create a coherent whole. ● Use precise words and phrases, telling details, and sensory language to convey a vivid picture of the experiences, events, setting, and/or characters. ● Provide an ending that follows from and reflects on what is experienced, observed, or resolved over the course of the narrative.

Students will write a narrative essay over a personal experience. Students will use descriptive and figurative language to enhance their writing and appeal to the reader’s senses.

- Students will be able to write a narrative essay over a specific personal experience
Essential Question:
How can I use language to paint a vivid picture for my audience?
Procedure:
- The teacher will give a review presentation over descriptive language and figurative language
- The teacher will explain a narrative essay and go over a project assignment sheet with the class
- The students will write a 2 page narrative essay over a specific experience in their lives. They are to include all points on a plot diagram in their writing as well as use descriptive and figurative language. The students will have 2 class periods to work, and will conference with the teacher on the second day.
Product or Assessment:
Students will turn in a 2 page narrative essay that uses descriptive and figurative language to appeal to the reader’s senses.
