Indiana Standard: USG 1.7, 2.7, 3.3
Objective: Students will be introduced to the Expressed powers of Congress through a jigsaw activity.
Procedure:
- Prior to class, write the 5 expressed powers of the Constitution (Commerce, Borrowing, Bankruptcy and Currency, War, and Domestic)
- Divide students into groups of 5
- Assign one member of each group the Expressed Powers Doc, having that member then share the Doc with their group members
- Groups then assign each member a power to research and answer the three questions
- With 10 minutes remaining in class have one student from each group verbally explain one of their powers in 60 seconds or less.
- Groups should turn their completed copy of the Doc at the end of the period
Product or Assessment: Completed worksheet
Accommodations:
- Could have individual students fill the worksheet out and then get into their groups to discuss what they had done
- Could divide students up into 5 small groups and have them fill out the worksheet paper pencil, having each group write on a chalk or white board as they finish
