ICT's represent critical tools and an infrastructure that are increasingly shaping our world understanding, interaction and structure of society. They can also enable efforts toward realizing inclusive, equitable and just development. At the center's of this is the women's empowerment and gender equality, where ICT can play a catalytic role. Women's empowerment is the process of increasing the capacity of individual's or group to makes choices and transform those choices into desired actions and outcomes.
Needs for women's empowerment
Women's are half of the total population in the world. Many womens are the poorest of the poor because of the extreme forms of discrimination that persist in many parts of today's world. Women's are therefore not only the representative of impoverished people in the world but also the most disadvantaged groups. Although actively participating in taking care of children, family members,live stock and agricultural work, household work, health care and so forth women's have limited access to resources and economy.
So,it is important to empower womens to change their lives, through educating poverty and enabling their contribution to society .
Potential of ICT for empowering women's
Information is noted as a prerequisite for empowerment. While participation drives empowerment by encouraging people by actively involved in the development process, contribute ideas , take the initiative to articulate needs and problems and assert their autonomy. Women's full and equal access to ICT -based economic and educational activities support women's contribution and helps womens to become more empowered . By accessing information, women's can enrich and enhance their quality of life. When used effectively ICT can create better opportunities for women's to exchange information,gain access to online education and to engage in e-commerce activities.
Role of ICT for women's empowerment
To Orients ICT project so that they address these areas. ICT project planning and implement for women's empowerment must take place in a context which consist of five main context
1. Creating an enabling environment which supports and encourages strategies to promote women's equal access to and opportunity to benefit from ICT project, as well as creating a regulation and policy environment which supports women's use of ICT.
2. Developing content which speaks to women's concern and reflects their local knowledge and which is of value for their daily lives, business enterprises and family responsibilities.
3. Supporting increased representation of women and girls in scientific and technical education and using ICT's to promote their increased participation in education at all levels.
4. Promoting increased employment in IT sector for women's and use of ICT for women's SME's.
5. Implementing e-governance strategies which are accessible to women's and promoting womens lobbying and advocacy activities.
