Lesson Content
Outline teaching and learning experiences, below, that will equip students to demonstrate the targeted understandings.
Anticipatory Set
Take inventory of body parts, read stories of bodily function such as My Five Senses by Aliki, Everyone Poops, by Taro Gomi
Modeling of Procedures by Teacher
Teacher sets up many experiences for the students to engage in their learning of the body including: how to count and tally the body parts related to our senses, teaches and sings songs related to body parts, plays twister, sets up a medical clinic in dramatic play area ,with stethoscope, anatomical charts, doctor and nurse smocks, conducts aerobic activities and asks children to count heartbeats, uses balloons to demonstrate lung capacity, uses mirrors to look inside at sense organs on face and inside mouth, uses rubber bands to illustrate muscle response, look at x-rays of different animals and more!
Activity or Practice of Content
Create a paper doll cutout for children to cut and depict the outside and the inside of the body including the skeletal system, the circulatory system, the digestive system.
