Basic Information
Learners in Adult Basic Education and High School Equivalency programs need to know how to create a basic Word document, for class as well as for employment and personal needs. This lesson is an introductory in computer science word document.

Objectives
Learners will format and save a basic MS Word document to be used for a number of different purposes.
Learners will list the benefits of using a MS Word document for various purposes
Learners will enter and format a text document using basic MS tools
Learners will cut, copy and paste document content using menu options
Learners will save a file both on the computer and to a flash drive
Instructional Strategies

Computer with MS Word and flash drive
Headphones and internet connection
Paper and pencil
Hard copies of lesson
Learners will use computer with MS Word and flash drive to open MS Word, review menu items, follow instructions on formatting a document and save to a flash drive.
Learners will access and download the open resource and listen to the lesson.
Learners will complete the activities making notes as needed in Word or pencil and paper.
Learners will use hard copies of lesson to modify lesson following instructions.
Lesson Plan
Warm-Up
Have learners share what they know about Word document and how they can be used. Write examples of how they can be used on the board for all to see.
Introduction
Hand out worksheet titled "MS Word Terms" with word document definitions.

Discuss words and definitions learners will be exposed to.
Presentation
Instructor will model the process for each step required to format a Word document.
Learners will observe and then complete each step under supervision.

Learner will follow OER lesson plan to complete the lesson and make changes to the open plan as needed to improve learneing and make instruction better and clearer.
Evaluation
Following instructions and models, learners will meet the following objectives with at least 80% accuracy. Instructor will provide formative assessment throughout, noticing if learners completed the steps correctly.
- List benefits of using MS Word for various purposes.
- Enter and format a text document using various MS tolls.
- Cut, copy, and paste document content using menu options.
- Save a file both on the computer and to a flash drive.
- Using the OER https://www.oercommons.org/courses/intro-to-microsoft-word, learners will list benefits of using OER for learneing.
- Learners will download and complete assigned open sourrce lesson.
Learners will be graded (1) on completing and saving a formatted Word document following all requirements, and (2) modifying an open resource.

Have learner create a document of their choosing that reflects a personal interest that they have. Examples include: yard sale sign, recipe, cover letter for resume, letter to someone- personal or business, poem, lyrics to favorite song.
