Warm-up

  1. The students will put the steps of going on a vacation in order

Here we will have steps to plan a vacation. You will put them in order on the table. Work together to do it. You will use the "Steps to taking a vacation cards".

2 . After, ask the students a few discussion questions:

  • Do you like to travel? Do you travel frequently?
  • How do you like to travel? For example, would you prefer to travel by plane, train, boat, but or car?
  • What kind of activities do you like to do when you travel? For example, do you like to swim, camp, go horseback riding, fishing, etc.?
  • What kind of housing accommodation do you like to stay in? For example, a hotel, an airbnb, a hostel, or a friends house?
  • How much does a great hotel cost? How much does a cheap hotel cost?

Main Activity

Students will be acting as travel agents and vacationers, switching roles.

  1. Ask which one of the students wants to be the travel agent first

"Today you will work in partners. One of you will be a travel agent and the other a traveler. Who would like to be the travel agent first?"

  2. Give all of the travel agent cards to the travel agent, and give each of the other students one traveler card/the survey card (have them place face down.)
  3. One of the travelers will have to “plan a vacation” with the travel agent using the specifications of their traveler card. As the lab assistant, you should point to each item on a card as you explain:

"The traveler has a card with a lot of information included. The card has how many people are in your group, how many beds you will need, the amount of money you can spend and the things that you like to do. The travel agent will use this information to plan a vacation. "

  4. The travel agent will have to choose the best travel agent card that fits what the travelers needs are.

"The agent will have cards with many questions. You will need to ask those questions to the traveler. After you ask the questions there will be many card with possible places to recommend. You will use that information to make the best recommendation. When you choose a place, you will share it with the traveler. "

  5. Once the travel agent offers a “plan” to the traveller, the traveller will become the travel agent, and they will “plan” another vacation.

End of trip survey

"Now you will fill out a survey about your experience with your travel agent. Here is where you will have the surveys and markers."

7 . This cycle will continue until everyone has been a travel agent.
