Instructional Plan:
Anticipatory Set/Pre-Activity:
Before this lesson the instructor has already taught the basics of proper abdominal exercise and what muscles are involved in this type of workout.
Benefits/Explanation/Real-World Connection:
This generation of students has thousands of free workout resources at their fingertips through their electronic devices. Through this activity they will be able to differentiate between a well structured workout and a less effective workout.
Activities (i.e. instructions, warm-up, lesson, cool-down):
Warm-Up: 4 minute Tabata (20sec. work, 10sec rest)- Jumping Jacks, High Knees, Jog, Ski Jumps, Butt kicks, Cross Country Skiers, Cross Punches, Jog
Activity:
Break your class into even groups. Each group needs an iPad, pen/pencil, and an evaluation tool. Explain to them the real world connection to the activity.
Activity Directions: Your group is going to search an abdominal workout video and then complete the workout along with the video. At the completion of your workout you group will fill out the evaluation tool. Only requirements/expectations are that your video has to be at least 10 minutes long, every group member has to participate with the video, the video focus has to be on abdominal muscles, and you must complete the evaluation tool.
While students are participating in their videos, the instructor will go around to each group and perform one of the ab exercises with each group.
Closure:
Go over what you liked that you saw when participating with your groups. Review how they can apply this to the real world.
