Today we are looking at inverse operations!

This is when we do the opposite sum to work out an answer!

Wario and Mario are complete opposites, help them work out the questions together!

¨      Princess Peach is thinking of a number. She doubles it, adds 17 and then finds the square root, ending up with the number 5. What did she start with?

¨      Luigi has a favourite number. When he squares the number, takes away 11 and divides it by ten he ends up with the number 7. What’s his favourite number?

¨      Toad is thinking of a number. He divides it by 7, and then multiplies it by 4, then adds 4 and then halves then number. He ends up with the number 20. What number did he start with?

Now let’s do the same thing using equations:

¨      3x + 6 = 18. Find x

¨      8√b + 4 = 60. Find b

¨      2(4s + 20) = 44. Find s
