Creating our own questions is more educational (and fun!) than answering someone else's. Let's learn a question-formation technique involving 3 types of questions.
Bronze questions are detail-, fact-, or information-based. Silver questions are broader comprehension questions that require some analysis and/or inference. Gold questions are deep discussion questions that have no single answer.
All types are important, but we should try to move towards creating and working with gold questions, because they lead to greater and deeper communication and thinking.
Examples from the comic “Superman”: Bronze: What is Superman's real name?
Silver: Why did Superman become a hero?
Gold: Why do a few people become heroes, and most don’t? Or: Why are heroes important to our society
Use a text or topic assigned by your teacher or your own text/topic to create bronze, silver and gold questions. You can quiz your partner on the bronze and silver questions, and have a group/class discussion on the gold questions!
