Why Do People Tell Stories?
As we begin to discover why people tell stories and the impact stories have on people, it is important to consider the background of various storytelling techniques. Today, you will read an article that explores whether or not science can explain why we tell stories, you will annotate it for the identified criteria, and then respond to a few questions.
1.) Read
- Define the following words:
- Juxtapositions
- Brooded
- egocentric
- Ethical
2.) Annotate
- Review these guidelines for items you should look for when annotating texts. You can write directly on a printed copy of the article, or make notes on a separate piece of paper.
3.) Respond
- What connection does the author make between stories and science?
- Choose one analogy, or comparison, the author makes about storytelling/story writing and explain what he means by that connection. You might need to do some research!
- Write a paragraph discussing your opinions about what you learned in the article. Do you agree? Disagree? How did your own opinions develop or change as a result of this article?
