Driving Questions:
How can we learn everything we need to know about our Heroes?
Where do we go for the best, most trustworthy information?
Grabber: Teacher gives two short speeches on a hero of their own (1m each), one with true but rote facts and the other with some of the same facts but with added context, detail and "WOW" facts. Ask students, "what type of speech would you like to give to your family and classmates at the end of this unit?"
To make the most entertaining and informative speech, we need to become the expert on this person and what makes them our HERO. We need to use the best resources in order to get the best facts. We need to focus on what makes us say WOW when we are reading and learning, and take notes at that very moment so we don't lose that information.
Culminating Activity: Students will research their hero using our online resources and books to find the most interesting facts available.
