Brief Tool DescriptionWhat is its purpose? Is it for a particular dimension of the Thoughtful Classroom framework? What do the teacher and students do during the strategy that make it valuable?This tool encourages students to read and process the information through analyzing what question the passage sections answer.This strategy engages students in pairs to talk about a short reading passage through questioning and processing the information deeply. The strategy prepares students for large group discussion by giving them an opportunity to identify and clarify their thinking in a low risk environment before processing in a larger group.
Example(s) of How to Use the Tool in the ClassroomDoes it lend itself best to a particular subjects? Have you used the strategy successfully with a particular topic? Is there a lesson you can describe that illustrates how to use it?This tool could be used with any of the grades I teach (5-8) effectively. I used it with grade 5 lesson on Latin America Climate. The assignment was from the textbook. The students created questions on the material by paragraph.
Suggestions for AdaptationsCould it be easily adapted for a higher/lower grade? For a different subject area? For assessment?Yes, I think it could be easily adapted.
