Learning Objectives
Students will be able to:
  • Describe their interests and hobbies, identify careers that interest them, identify which post-secondary options may be an option for them and identify any questions that they have about these post-secondary options.
  • Identify different levels of careers and how education impacts those careers.
  • Increase their awareness of the wide-range of careers available to them, what post-secondary options they would need to achieve those career goals and then set those goals for themselves on their Career and Academic Plans.
  • Develop the skills to make good decisions based on their academic and personal needs and set specific and measurable career goals.
Instructional Procedure (See document attached below)
Conceptual Background
  • Another educator would have to have access to the Naviance system in order to utilize the lesson. The basis of this lesson is found in the Grade 7 Curriculum under the Lesson “My Future Plans.”  This is where they would access the information on post-secondary options, as well as the initial questionnaire.
  • Students would need to have access to this program through their school. Their log-ins would be at student.naviance.com. From there, students would input their login credentials and access the lesson.
Formative Assessments
  • Answers to their lesson in Naviance as saved and reviewed by teacher.
  • Information shared during small group discussion.
  • Answers to their extension lesson- collected within the Google Doc and reviewed by teacher.
Materials Needed
  • Students need access to an iPad or computer to be able to utilize Naviance program and Google Doc for extension activity.
  • Students need access to a printer if you choose to print out their results on the activity.
