Students will identify and compare attributes of two-dimensional shapes in the world around them.
The students will identify and compare attributes of two-dimensional and three- dimensional shapes in the world around them.
Students will explore the outdoor classroom finding objects and determining the first sound.
Students will explore the outdoor classroom finding objects and determining the first sound.
Students will explore the biome in which they live while comparing it to other major biomes around the world.Standard(s): 5.L.2.1Compare the characteristics of several common ecosystems
STUDENT ACTIVITY - 5th Grade: This is a distance-learning lesson that students can complete at home. The student will explore the biome in which they live while comparing it to other major biomes around the world. This activity was created by Out Teach (out-teach.org), a nonprofit providing outdoor experiential learning to transform Science education for students in under-served communities.
Students will compare different plant traits and determine how each structure helps that species of plant grow and reproduce in the schoolyard habitat. After which, students can observe each plant for acquired traits.
Working in teams of four, students act as botanists and use non-fiction on-line text to conduct Self Organized Learning System (SOLE) research to uncover the needs and life cycle of a plant for the school garden.
In this lesson, students use the real-world application of insect monitoring to practice their fluency with addition and subtraction.
Students will listen to the text and explore the garden to connect details from the text to their surroundings.
Students will use their knowledge of appropriate tools and units and determine when to measure liquid volume or weight.
STUDENT ACTIVITY - 5th - TX/NCThis is a distance-learning lesson students can complete at home.In this lesson, the student will formulate and interpret cause-and-effect relationships using a 3-column chart to organize their ideas. The student will apply the concept of "cause" as something that always happens first, and the effect as the resulting outcome (or what happens second). This activity was created by Out Teach (out-teach.org), a nonprofit providing outdoor experiential learning to transform Science education for students in under-served communities.

Students dissect fruits to investigate and estimate the number of seeds in each type of fruit. They germinate and plant a seed in the school garden and in the classroom to make observations of the growing plant over time, tracking and recording each stage of the plant life cycle. Students taste the flowers, seeds, and fruit of the new plants when the plant has reached the flower stage of the life cycle.
