    Overview

    This resource was created by Jennifer Trenhaile, in collaboration with Dawn DeTurk, Hannah Blomstedt, and Julie Albrecht, as part of ESU2's Integrating the Arts project. This project is a four year initiative focused on integrating arts into the core curriculum through teacher education, practice, and coaching.

    Lesson Delivery
    Students will begin class with a song “jumping jacks.”  We will talk about how some notes are faster (shorter) than others.  Show graphic score so they can see that some of the pictures are split and will go faster.Using the online curriculum lesson the students will make different rhythm patterns.    Explain that we can count each pattern a different way instead of 1 2 & 3 4, etc.  We can “add them up” to get a sum.The students will then use the graphics and instruments to “add up” what they see (find the sum). For example, dog = 1 and puppy = 2 (based on syllables). Finish with a Halloween song.
