EMBRACE YOUR UNIQUENESS AND LIVE A FULFILLING LIFE
You were made on purpose, not by accident! Whether you were born into a family, adopted, or placed in foster care, your unique personality was meant to be. This means that you're different from any other kid out there, and that's a good thing! Remember that living a good life is more important than just achieving things. When you focus on living a good life, the things you achieve will feel even better.
    THINKING CAREFULLY
Walk through the thinking process for understanding how to take care of your body and prevent illnesses.
High school students today are constantly being bombarded with technology - from movies on laptops to social media on their phones. It's become so addictive that many people, not just teens, can't stop using their devices even when they're not really doing anything important. This is not good for us, as it's creating a wedge between us and taking over our lives.
Parents used to worry most about protecting their teens from sex, drugs, and alcohol, but now their biggest fear is social media. They feel like it's making their kids harder to raise and isolating them from their families and friends. They're not wrong - social media can be really dangerous. In the past, it was easier to avoid bad content on TV, but now it's much harder because the content is much worse, and social media is really addictive.
Parents are right to worry, but they shouldn't feel helpless. They have more influence over their kids than they think, and they can protect them. Doctors should be encouraging teens to avoid sexual activity because it can be really dangerous for them physically, mentally, and emotionally. Many doctors and teachers think that teens will have sex no matter what, so their job is just to minimize the risks. But that's not true - teens can say no to sex, and if they do, they'll have a much healthier future. There are too many sexually transmitted diseases and cases of depression in young people because of premature sexual activity. Don't let that happen to you - say no to sex and take control of your life!

    CHOOSE THE RIGHT ANSWER.
Answer the question below.  Then read why each answer is correct or incorrect.
As educators and parents, one of our top priorities should be to help teenagers learn how to take care of their bodies and prevent illnesses. This requires teaching them virtues such as courage, temperance, justice, prudence, wisdom, and chastity, which are essential for making good decisions and leading a fulfilling life. Some adults may view these virtues as outdated in our modern society, but they are still relevant and necessary for fostering happiness and well-being. By instilling these values in our children from a young age, we can help them develop the skills they need to navigate the complexities of life and make healthy choices. In addition to teaching virtues, we must also encourage teenagers to cultivate love in their lives by giving and receiving it from others. By prioritizing both virtues and love, we can help teenagers build a strong foundation for a happy and healthy future.
Which of the following best describes the virtue of temperance as mentioned in the passage?
The ability to have the strength to do what is right regardless of what others think.
Righting what is wrong and treating others fairly.
Having control specifically over sexual desires.
Exercising self-control over one's bodily appetites and pleasures.

Check to see if you chose the right answer.
The correct answer for the question is option D. Temperance means having self-control over one's desires and enjoying things in moderation without going overboard. It's different from courage, justice, and chastity, which are other virtues. Courage is the strength to do what's right, justice is treating others fairly, and chastity is control over sexual desires. Sometimes, people get confused between these virtues while answering multiple-choice questions. So, to avoid making mistakes, it's crucial to read the question and answer options carefully and understand each virtue's meaning in the passage's context.

Answer the questions below.  Use the following hints to avoid mistakes.
To solve a problem, you need to dig deep and find out what's causing it.
Look for all the facts and details you can find.
Try to figure out how different pieces of information are connected.

GET STRONGER AND MORE CAPABLE BY TAKING ON PHYSICAL CHALLENGES
No matter your age, challenging yourself physically can be beneficial. Boys, in particular, respond positively to physical challenges because it makes them feel strong and accomplished. One easy way to do this is by doing chores around the house, like yard work or helping with dishes and trash. Doing so shows your parents that you're capable of helping out without complaining. You can also try new things, like gardening, grocery shopping, or cooking dinner for your family. Not only will this help you develop new skills, but it will also make you a more helpful and enjoyable person to be around. Don't feel limited by traditional gender roles - there are many ways to use your physical abilities. Remember, physical work isn't a punishment; view it as an opportunity to help others while also improving yourself.
Which of the following is NOT a way to keep your body healthy and avoid getting sick?
    Washing your hands frequently
    Exercising regularly
Sharing personal items like towels and drinking glasses

    It's addictive and time-consuming
It exposes them to bad content

Temperance is control over sexual desires, while chastity is having self-control over one's desires.

    WRITING THE BEST ANSWER POSSIBLE
Study the model below.  It’s a good example of a written answer.

USE POSITIVE LANGUAGE AND CONTROL YOUR EMOTIONS
Learning to handle our feelings is important, but it's not enough to simply acknowledge them - we need to follow through and communicate clearly. We must remember that feelings are not the same as relationships or people, and we always have a choice in how we respond to them.
To take control of our thoughts, perspectives, and behaviors, we should use proactive language instead of reactive language. Reactive language limits us and makes us feel trapped, while proactive language empowers us to find alternatives and take charge of our feelings.
While our feelings can be intense, they don't have to control our behavior. We need to ask ourselves what we're going to do with those feelings and whether we're going to allow them to dominate our decisions or take charge of them. In our culture, we're encouraged to express our feelings openly, but it's important to remember that our behaviors ultimately determine our long-term happiness and success.
Unfortunately, many forms of entertainment, such as TV, video games, and movies, can encourage young people to allow their feelings to dominate. This can be harmful, especially for boys who may be exposed to violent or negative content that encourages aggressive behavior. Instead of focusing on superficial feelings, we need to work on resolving the root causes of our emotions in healthy ways. It's important to dial down on contrived violence and focus on dealing with real anger in healthy ways.
Explain how using proactive language and taking control of our feelings can lead to greater long-term happiness and success. Use evidence from the passage to support your answer.
Proactive language means choosing your words carefully to help you make good choices and control your feelings. If you use reactive language, you might feel stuck and unable to make good decisions. It's important to express your feelings, but not let them control your behavior. If you can control your emotions and respond in a healthy way, you'll be able to have better relationships and achieve your goals. Watching too many violent movies or playing too many violent video games can make it hard to control your emotions. It's better to focus on healthy ways to deal with anger. If you can understand what's causing your feelings and deal with them in a healthy way, you can prevent them from hurting your relationships and your life. By using proactive language and controlling your emotions, you can make good choices and be successful in the long run.
This answer shows that the writer has a good grasp of the text and responds well to the task. It uses several examples from the passage to support its argument and provides a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. The language is easy to understand and suitable for high school students. Cultivating a strong work ethic is not just about learning discipline and practice; it's about developing a sense of responsibility and perseverance that will serve them well throughout their lives. By taking on tasks like raking leaves or helping with household chores, teens can gain a sense of accomplishment and pride that comes from helping others and being responsible.
