    Overview

    Overview: This lesson goes over the eight elements of the Consumer BIll of Rights. There is a presentation, notes page and assignment/project titled 8 Student Rights. This lesson can be a stand alone lesson or it can be a two part lesson. Part 1 Consumer Rights, Part 2 Consumer Protection Laws also found on the OER.

    Overview: This lesson goes over the eight elements of the Consumer BIll of Rights. There is a presentation, notes page and assignment included on the notes page.

    Essential question: What are the eight basic rights that consumers have? 

     

    Learning goal:  Students will be able to identify and explain the eight consumer rights. 

     

    Materials: Computer and worksheet

    Bell Work: Ask the students to come in and write down two rights they think that they have as consumers. 

     

    Content/Procedure/Activity: Hand out the notes page to the students or put it on your online platform (google classroom, canvas,...). Pull up the powerpoint and go over the slides on the powerpoint. Have the students fill in the notes. While you are going through the powerpoint (or after) discuss the two discussion questions below. 

     

    Homework/Exit ticket: Adapt the 8 consumer rights to fit a school setting. Draw a diagram like the one found on the last slide of the presentation to explain your 8 Student Rights at your school.

    Why do you think the word legitimate is capitalized on the slides? 

    What consumer education or financial literacy courses does our school offer?
