    Overview:

    Are you looking for a fun and engaging way to introduce the use of personification in your classroom? This resource created by Jennifer Bauer can be used as an introduction to the use of personification in reading and writing. The students will identify and analyze the use of personification in example sentences within a PowerPoint. The teacher can also check for students' knowledge of identifying and analyzing personification by having students play a Quizizz game on their devices. 

    Nebraska State Standards Addressed:

    LA 3.1.6.c Identify and explain why authors use literary devices. 

    LA 4.1.6.c Identify and explain why authors use literary devices (e.g., simile, metaphor, alliteration, onomatopoeia, imagery, rhythm, personification, hyperbole, idioms).

    The students will identify and analyze the use of personification in sentences. 

    Brief Overview:

    This lesson can be used as an engaging way to introduce personification through means of a PowerPoint that explains the meaning of personification and gives students an opportunity to identify and analyze examples of personification in sentences. The teacher will check for students' level of understanding by having students play the Quizizz 'Playful Personification' game on devices.  

    Grade Level:

    This lesson can be used with 3rd-4th grade students as an introduction to personification in reading and writing. 

    Task 1:

    Task 1:

    The teacher will explain the goal/objective to the students - The students will identify and analyze the use of personfication in sentences. 

    The teacher will show the PowerPoint (attached in section resoures below) to the students. The students will engage in discussion on the example personfication sentences and will be given the opportunity to identify and analyze example sentences on their own (this can be done via student markerboards, paper, etc.)

    Task 2:

    When the teacher has checked for students' understanding of personification, the teacher will have the students play 'Playful Personification' on Quizizz. The Quizizz can be used as an informal assessment of students' knowledge on identifying and analyzing personification in reading and writing.

    The link to the game is included in the Personification PowerPoint and is also linked at the bottom of the section. 

    Note: In order for students to be able to play the game, they will need to have access to a device.
