    Overview

    Students take notes and read articles about how life changed for humans because of the introduction of agriculture.  Students play “MasterMind” using the dates of significant changes in agriculture and complete a worksheet while researching historical events that have impacted agriculture.

    Lesson Title:  History of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resource Systems

    Overview:  Students take notes and read articles about how life changed for humans because of the introduction of agriculture.  Students play “MasterMind” using the dates of significant changes in agriculture and complete a worksheet while researching historical events that have impacted agriculture.

    Student Learning Objectives:

    Objective 1: Learners will describe life before and during early agriculture.

    Objective 2: Learners will list and describe innovations that have changed agricultural production.

    Objective 3:  Learners will list and document events that have impacted agriculture and the environment’s history.

    Time:  two 45-minute lessons

    Resources:  Exploring Agriscience, 2nd Edition, Thompson-Delmar, www.fsmitha.com

    Supplies:

    • Blank Printer Paper
    • Markers and Writing Surface
    • Activity Sheet 1: enough for ½ the class
    • Activity Sheet 2: enough for ½ of the class
    • Activity Sheet 3 & 4: enough for one copy per team of 2 or 3 students
    • Activity Sheet 5: one per student
    • Computer or computer lab capable of playing audio with access to the internet https://growinganation.org/

    Extended Classroom/Laboratory Activity:  Split out time periods between students and assign a research paper or PowerPoint.

    Extended FFA/Leadership Activity:  Have students create and edit a movie that includes interviews about how agricultural life was for the now-retired. Distribute links to or copies of the videos to the individuals and their families.
