Learning Outcomes

Are there course content learning outcomes?  I am looking for overall content rather than chapter by chapter.

Hi Karen,

Lindsay from OpenStax here! Our Director of Higher Education has provided the following information regarding course content learning outcomes:

In the process of working with faculty to develop Workplace Software and Skills, the authors and advisors established the following general objectives for the text. Note that course objectives are typically set by the institution and department, so ours may not match the distinct needs of a particular department or program.

  • Develop awareness of computing fundamentals (hardware, software, the Internet, information security, digital media, e-commerce, artificial intelligence) and computer-related social and workforce issues (intellectual property rights, digital life, privacy, ethics, etc).
  • Demonstrate understanding of the productivity software applications Microsoft Office and Google Suite, as well as the ability to distinguish between their use cases and core functions.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in document preparation, formatting, sharing, and publication using Microsoft Word and Google Docs.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in spreadsheet usage, calculations and formulas, sorting, sharing, and integrations into other media, using Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets
  • Demonstrate proficiency in presentation development, sharing, and delivery, using Microsoft PowerPoint and Google Slides.
  • Demonstrate a baseline understanding of database creation, editing, and usage, using Microsoft Access
  • Demonstrate a baseline understanding of content management systems
  • Demonstrate a baseline understanding of social media usage in businesses, particularly for marketing and communication purposes.
  • Demonstrate ability to understand and interpret business scenarios and utilize the most effective productivity resources and functions to achieve success.

Please let me know if you have any further questions!

That sounds interesting. When it comes to Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets, how deep is the learning? I mean for example is it a basic set of formulas or does it also include macros and table programming? We are now also considering ai-powered learning platforms, but have not yet decided to use them or the traditional approach. I recently read about how to create an AI-based LMS and they seem to offer a more personalized approach to learning. Maybe traditional courses can also be adjusted to the needs of a specific group?
