Here the OER Commons Submission Guidelines our librarians use to review content submissions to the OER Commons library, and a few examples of different OER Evaluation Tools:

Here are some quality evaluation criteria that was shared during our discussions at the 2024 Open Education Summer Institute:

  • Is the content current, regularly updated, and showcasing best practices?
  • Is the content relevant to students? (culture, region, etc.)
  • Is the reading level appropriate for the intented audience?
  • Is the content accessible?
  • Is the content diverse?
  • Is the formatting consistent?
    • Do links all open the same way?
    • Are videos embedded or linked?
    • Are there no typos or errors?
    • Are there appropriate citations?
  • Is the language and terminology consistnent throughout the resource?
  • Is the content highly organized?
  • Are the authors credible?
  • Are ancillary materials available?
  • Does the course allow for student input and redesign?
