Assessing and Reteaching Key Ideas with Langston Hughes Short Stories
Character Traits
Discuss character traits with students. The teacher may want to use the "Identifying Character Traits" document from the Read Write Think lesson: "Action is Character: Exploring Character Traits with Adjectives."
Have students complete the character trait activity:

Conflict
- Give students the definitions of internal and external conflict.
- Then, in pairs, have the students identify one example of a conflict and post it on a t-chart in front of room.
- When putting the example up, student must give justification of their choice.
Review Pretest Data
- If you used a Google Form to administer the pretest, you can easily show the graphs of how many students gave which answer.
- If you had the students take the test on paper, you could tally up the number/percentage of students who gave each answer.
- Discuss, question by question: What IS the correct answer? Can they justify WHY?
