Introduction to Benchmarking is a learning resources aimed at familiarizing farmers with the 10 basic steps in benchmarking process. This resource outlines the steps in benchmarking process as described in Farm Business Analysis Using Benchmarking by David Kahan.

Overall Course Goal:  

Familiarize farmers with Benchmarking process in farm business analysis.  Learners will use benchmarking practices to identify farm weaknesses and implement ideas that address those weaknesses. This will: 

1) Improve the farm performance and 

2) Make it financially sustainable.

Learning Objectives:

a.    Learners will be able to identify important considerations in organizing benchmarking learning group.

b.    Learners will be able to identify problems to be examined in benchmarking process,performance indicators and benchmark farms.

c.     Learners will be able to collect benchmarking data, compare performance and analyze the differences.

d.    Learners will be able to create a presentation to share results, develop a plan to implement changes and reflect and evaluate results.

Requirements 

Prior knowledge of farming management.
