App Authors
Volunteer Management
We encourage you and your team to involve volunteers in your App Authors instance. We and our partners have involved volunteers ranging from graduate students to parents to interested teens.
Volunteer checklist:
- Check with your institution to see what kind of permissions or background checks may be necessary to include volunteers in your program.
- Provide volunteers with lesson plans at least two days before each session is held. This will allow them to familiarize themselves with some basic coding principals so they can help give one on one attention to students struggling with the session.
- Encourage volunteers to reflect after every App Authors session. This process will allow you to improve each App Authors session and reflect on the process as a whole. Bellow is the reflection document you can use at the end of sessions with your volunteers. There is also a full App Authors Retrospective to reflect on a longer sequential App Authors instance.
Remember, coding can be intimidating for students and teachers. App Authors is about learning together. Don't worry if you can't answer every question; the important part of App Authors is getting experience coding!
