Instructional Plan

Introduction:

Teacher will show a model of a completed piece of narrative writing a model for students to use when writing.

Model:

Model how to use the graphic organizer to organize their thoughts in sequential order using the finished piece of narrative writing, but cutting the sentences apart and adding them back to the graphic organizer in sequential order.

Guided Practice:

Remove the sentences strips from the graphic organizer. Mix them up and distribute to the appropriate number of students.  Students will work with other students to determine what order the sentences should be re-placed on the graphic organizer. As a group, proof the narrative to determine if the sentences are in a clear sequence of events. If not, then students may rearrange to make it more clear.

Independent Practice:

Students will be given their own narrative and scissors to cut their sentences apart, and place in a clear sequence of events on their own copy of the graphic organizer.

Closure:

When prompted, the students should be able to tell what the objective of the lesson today was. For example: "Today we used a graphic organizer to sequence events."

Assessment

Using a rubric, the teacher will examine each students' graphic organizer to determine the mastery of this skill.  ( See attachment)
