Incorporating Student Creativity into BlendEd Class
Nicole is a High School Language Arts Teacher.
Students create a variety of different projects for my classes to demonstrate their learning. I find that students enjoy these activities and seem to retain information for a longer period of time when they can associate it with a specific activity or task. Below I have included some examples.
1) News Presentations
Students in my Current Events class created news reports to demonstrate their understanding of how the news worked. He is a picture of one of the presentations:
2. Students as Teachers
Students were assigned specific topics and then were given freedom to teach the class for an entire period. They were able to utilize any teaching strategies that they wanted. They loved this activity. They enjoyed being given freedom and like assigning homework to their peers. This picture shows two students presenting an Emaze presentation to the class while they took notes.
3. Picture Notes
Students create picture notes quite often in my classroom to reflect on their learning. In picture notes students are given topics from the textbook and told to summarize the topic and then illustrate it. I was blown away by the submissions this year.
4. Picture Books
Similar idea as picture notes but in book form.
Students also create comics in my classroom to review their learning utilizing storyboardthat.com

Creating a Newscast in Journalism - Whitney Maulsby
Whitney is a Language Arts teacher in a Middle School.
My journalism classes create a newsletter and a newscast every quarter. They also control our school's Twitter account and part of our school's website. However, with the little time we have left, I have them CREATE a project that shows a positive aspect of news, which is sometimes hard to come by. These students have blown me away with their ability to tap into that highest level of knowledge and create a news project from scratch. They have done several projects this year. Please take the time to check them out. I really loosen my grip on them during this time, which works well during an eighth period elective class. With my approval and guidance, they can take it wherever they want. I basically become a spectator to their innovative, compassionate, and wonderful ideas.
