At the beginning of the course, each student is assigned a unique blob - or a piece of material of a particular shape with specific material properties (density, bulk modulus, composition, viscosity, volatile content, etc) that is residing within the mantle at a specific environment (depth, pressure, temperature). Then as the semester continues as a topic is covered the student must assess (either quantitatively or qualitatively) what observable would be associated with their blob (for example, gravity anomalies, geoid anomalies, surface expressions, seismic tomography, phase transition topography). The student then develops a portfolio of their blob and its observables to then present at the end of the course with an explanation/interpretation for the source of the blob culiminating at building a geo-story around their anomaly.

Some blobs could be amorphous anomalies whereas other could have physical significance (though best not to tell the students ahead of time so they can make their own discovery as to what the blob is or isn't) such as subducted slabs at the CMB (or 660 km), plumes, lithospheric drip, lithospheric root, or a boring typical piece of the mantle.

The students know their numbers they are going to use their prior knowledge to group the manipulatives together to make addition problems and solve them.  Vocabulary:Addition, numbers, objects, counting, sorting, identifying, sequence, groups, biggest, smallest, more than, and less than A:Body of Lesson:The students are going to learn how to add groups by having a set of blocks that are split into two or three part with a certain number of blocks in each group.They then are going to put two or more groups of blocks together to see how many blocks there is all together.  A:Accommodations/Modifications: There will be ample time for each student to complete their work. The teacher (I) will be going around to help the children if they do not understand the lesson.  A:Multiple Intelligence(s) Addressed:A verbal explanation of the lesson along with hands on, visual, and practiced work. For visual learners there will be flashcards they are able to look at, for the kinesthetic learners there will be the objects that they can physically touch. The course aims at providing the fundamental tools for effective C++ programming in the context of high-performance computing. The tools include generic programming techniques, API development, and specific C++-11/14/17 constructs. Starting from a basic knowledge of C++, the attendees should be able to start using C++ language to engineer durable abstractions to develop and optimize applications. This course will focus for a large part on MOSFET and CMOS, but also on heterojunction BJT, and photonic devices.First non-ideal characteristics of MOSFETs will be discussed, like channel-length modulation and short-channel effects. We will also pay attention to threshold voltage modification by varying the dopant concentration. Further, MOS scaling will be discussed. A combination of an n-channel and p-channel MOSFET is used for CMOS devices that form the basis for current digital technology. The operation of a CMOS inverter will be explained. We will explain in more detail how the transfer characteristics relate to the CMOS design.
