This workshop will provide an overview of the foundation of a 06 Mental Health and Wraparound System of Care, highlighting main components to implementation and sustainability.
The CEBC (www.cebc4cw.org) is an online dissemination tool containing over 380 intervention and prevention programs with varying levels of supporting research evidence. The CEBC can be used by child and family-serving systems and organizations to identify new practices for implementation; however; knowledge alone of available practices is not sufficient for selecting the right one. The CEBC has created a guide to help child- and family-serving agencies think critically through the selection and implementation process. This workshop will walk participants through the process of how to assess agency needs; determine whether changes to the agency are needed and successfully select a new program to best meet the needs of the children and families being served.
Babies need love. Babies in child welfare also need you to know how their start in life has impacted them. This workshop will provide an overview of the significance children under five in child welfare have. They have unique and specific needs; including basic developmental expectations. Learn about the importance of early relationships and the impact of trauma/child maltreatment on the developing brain.
Wrangling a group of people to work together on a common mission is never easy, especially when they come with conflicting priorities and disparate ideas of what needs to happen.
The use of the CANS across child servings systems is growing and intersecting with supports and services; such as Wraparound; for youth and their families across the country. A system-level framework for Wraparound and CANS are well documented; but there is very little information about methods for integration of the two at the practice level and within an organizational structure. This presentation will explore aspects of CANS and Wraparound integration and report on specific strategies for integrating CANS data with the phases of Wraparound. Specific tools for integration will be shared.
B1 Wrapping with Trans* Youth (and their Families and Supports), Part 1
This presentation will explore the experience of transgender and gender variant youth by: shifting traditionally understood constructs of gender, understanding disparities in health/mental health outcomes for trans*youth, learning skills needed to be a “visible” ally for trans* youth, learning skills needed to support families and teams within the context of Wraparound services, and learning how to understand the importance of connecting trans* youth to supportive resources.
Effective July 1; 2017; when a child or youth in foster care is placed outside his or her county of jurisdiction; the responsibility to provide; arrange and pay for specialty mental health services changes. Presumptive transfer sounds like a complicated government administrative process because it is. This workshop will provide an explanation of what this process is; who is affected by it and how it can be managed effectively.
This session will focus on increasing the knowledge base and awareness for working with families who have experienced domestic violence. The goal of the session is to provide a basic level of understanding on how to work with families who have experienced or are experiencing domestic violence. Attendees will leave with a greater awareness; skill set and practical tools to aid them in serving families who have experienced domestic violence.
This workshop is designed for anyone who deals with Commercially Sexually Exploited Children (CSEC) victims and their families.
Casa Pacifica’s Community-based services in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties provide a wide range of social; emotional and behavioral support for youth ages 2-22 years in various community settings; including schools; homes and group homes. Learn specific interventions to use in the various phases of treatment: rapport-building/assessment phase; implementation phase; and transition and fade-out phase. Participants will leave with interventions they can use immediately with youth of all ages in all stages of treatment.
Engagement is a word commonly used to describe a practice that should be used by all who serve youth and families. Engaging staff at all levels of an organization is just as critical. But what does that look like? How do we engage others and create the relational foundation essential to support the application of best practices? In this workshop; participants will learn the role neuroscience plays in how we engage others; they will understand how to create an environment that encourages reflection and supports dialogue that identifies barriers to engagement; and they will leave with tools and strategies that they can apply immediately to create meaningful conversations within the organization and with families.
This training will provide specific implementation of suicide psychoeducation, assessment, prevention and intervention, including safety planning in a manner that will both empower direct service providers of all skill and educational levels, and individuals in the community to appropriately and confidently address suicide with all client populations.
This workshop will teach advanced; effective techniques for facilitating an effective CFT (Child and Family Team) meeting. The distinct stages of facilitation will be discussed; as well as how to recognize what stage the team is in. Common pitfalls and best practice standards of facilitation will be outlined. A live facilitation with stop-action explanation will be presented.
In this three-hour workshop; we will begin the conversation about cultural competency; privilege; oppression and humility. This course focuses on personal; and often unquestioned; beliefs and experiences in an attempt to enhance learning about cultural competence; increase humility in working with others and begin to be more open to examining the world from various perspectives. We will discuss entering into situations with humility; willing to learn from others; and being open and honest with ourselves about our own identities; privileges; oppression and growth opportunities.

Many of the families we serve in Wraparound have unresolved grief and loss issues that are often overlooked by Wraparound providers.
The CA CSEFEL Teaching Pyramid’s tiered approach—promoting healthy social-emotional skills; preventing challenging behaviors and intervening for problematic behaviors—transforms early childhood classroom climates by focusing on social-emotional development and building the skills of the adults in the child’s life; while supporting children with specific promotion and prevention strategies. This strategy is being taught across California and connects to school-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. There is also a strong emphasis on partnerships with families; and the approach directly supports several of the protective factors from Strengthening Families.
This course is inline with 2nd year engineering students who would like to understand the concepts of thermodynamics.
