Students will work in a small group to discuss a variety of topics through the lens of comparing different countries. These discussions will be facilitated through a board game, and ASL vocabulary will be embedded.
Students will talk about news and how they access it. In the main activity, students will make an ad supporting or opposing a certain product, they will have to make their case to the rest of the group.Students will learn how to discuss items and express opinions on items to a group.
In this activity, students will talk about their summer. They will also introduce themselves and get to know the rest of their lab/group mates. Students will finish the lab by playing a speeddating game.
Students practice discussing advice they would have given themselves in the past. Students will also practice talking about what they would do in a particular situation.
The lab will start off with some conversation starters having to do with numbers, each prompt has a quantitative aspect involved. During the main activity lab students will get to learn each other's experiences in other countries, focusing on country similarities.
In this activity, students will practice answer the phone and having a conversation in Chinese, using mannerisms common in Chinese. They will practice trying to make plans with someone over the phone, explaining their schedule, and politely accepting or declining an invitation.
In this lab students will share their interpretations on artwork. They will discuss how they can talk about art and express their opinion with a partner or in a group. Students will answer questions across different time frames (past, present, future).
The week before, students were asked to bring in a representation of their artistic self-expressing to share with others in the group. In this lab, they will be sharing those experiences and representations. Students will be given a short, 10 word, fingerspelling quiz from the lab assistant.
In this activity, students will practice asking someone they meet where they are from and their nationality. Students will start by asking each other what country they are from, and then each student will be given a country card at random. Students will then practice asking and answering questions about various nationalities.
In this activity, students will practice studying school vocabulary. They will also be able to respond to simple questions related to school. Students will also practice identifying school related vocabulary by looking at pictures. They will also be able to write a full sentence in Arabic using the vocabulary they are given individually.
This activity will expose students to the types of currency from Spanish speaking countries. Students will purchase items through an "auction". Students will practice numbers in Spanish and will also use adjectives to describe items that they can sell and buy. Students will practice using vocabulary to persuade others to buy a product and make deals with others when purchasing the product.
In this activity, students will have the opportunity to practice using money and math skills to bid on items in an "auction". Students will also experience what actions are like for Deaf individuals.
In this activity, students will have the opportunity to get to know each other and their lab assistant by sharing summer experiences in a casual setting. Students will share their preferences and express reasons for their preferences as well. Students will also practice describing vacations.
In this lab, students will learn how to ask for a favor from a stranger. They will also learn how to accept or decline a request and provide reasons why.
Students will practice asking permissions and making requests. With this activity students will be able to identify some of cultural etiquettes and values in South Korea. Students will also discuss different etiquettes from different cultures.
This activity allows students to practice describing pictures. Based on level, students will either describe what the image is showing, create a caption for the image, or tell a story behind the image.
Students will practice talking about events and holidays. They will discuss the ways in which they celebrate events with family and friends in the past. Students will also be able to identify how other cultures celebrate local or national holidays. They will recommend places to celebrate birthdays or go on dates in their city, and practice how to talk about past friendships or relationships.
